Three towers rise from the Javanese plain like stone mountains. Each one dedicated to a different face of God — Shiva the Destroyer, Vishnu the Preserver, Brahma the Creator. The carvings that cover every surface tell the story of Rama and Sita in a stone narrative so detailed it takes hours to read. This is not a ruin. This is a statement about what human hands can build when they believe they are building for the divine.
Explore the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia with an expert English-speaking guide. Your ticket includes access to the main Trimurti compound — the soaring Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma temples — plus the surrounding archaeological park with its hundreds of smaller shrines. The Ramayana reliefs carved into the balustrades are among the most complete stone narratives in the ancient world. Late afternoon offers the warmest light and the thinnest crowds.

"The scale of Prambanan took my breath away. Our guide explained every relief panel — the Ramayana came alive in the stone. I had no idea a Hindu temple of this size existed outside India."
"We visited in late afternoon on our guide's advice. The light was golden, the crowds had thinned, and we had the Shiva temple almost to ourselves. Extraordinary."
"The carvings are unbelievable — every surface tells a story. Our guide pointed out details I would have walked right past. Worth every penny for the guided experience."

Yes. Most visitors to Yogyakarta do both. The two sites are about 60 kilometres apart (roughly 90 minutes by car). Our Borobudur & Prambanan Day Tour covers both temples with a private driver, including hotel pickup.
Hindu. Prambanan is dedicated to the Trimurti — Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. It was built in the 9th century by the Hindu Sanjaya dynasty, around the same period that the nearby Buddhist monument of Borobudur was constructed by the rival Sailendra dynasty. Together they represent twelve centuries of Javanese religious history.
